A place to see, buy, eat, play and stay in, with the atomosphere of old Japanese culture Asakusa is the downtown area of Tokyo. Nakamise-dori, the main approach to Senso-ji Temple, is said to be 250 meters long from Kaminarimon to Hozomon. Asakusa is lined with so many long-established specialty restaurants that you can’t eat your way through them all in a day, from soba, tempura, monjayaki and sukiyaki to doze dishes and Western cuisine. You can also enjoy a tour of traditional toys and folk crafts such as marbles, kendama and ojiki, wind chimes, fans and other sundries, which make great souvenirs. If you want to enjoy the bustle of the good old days of Edo to your heart’s content, Asakusa is the place to start.
