Among the many Shinto shrines in Japan, Atsuta Jingu is said to be the second most prestigious after Ise Jingu. The Atsuta Jingu Shrine enshrines the sacred Kusanagi Sword, one of the three sacred weapons. The Atsuta Jingu Treasure House, which houses 6,000 items that tell the story of the shrine’s history of faith, is a must-see. The main shrine and 43 outlying shrines are enshrined outside the precincts of the shrine, and about 70 festivals and rituals are held each year. The most significant of these festivals is the Atsuta Matsuri, held on June 5. Also, located in the fountain is a legendary stone associated with Yang Guifei, one of the three most beautiful women in the world. It is said that if you sprinkle water on this stone three times, your wish will come true, and if you wash your face with this water, you will become as beautiful as Yang Guifei, a popular spot among women.
