Chubu Region (中部地方)

Chubu is a central region in Honshu, spanning from the north to the south of the island and bordered by the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. It offers a wide range of activities, from exploring vibrant cities to finding peace in mountain retreats, while also providing an opportunity to immerse oneself in traditional Japanese culture. In Kanazawa’s Higashi Chaya district, visitors can step into teahouses that date back to the Edo period, while Gokayama showcases the art of washi-making and the charm of traditional Gassho-Zukuri farmhouses with their thatched roofs. For a unique experience, one can participate in a workshop to learn about gold leaf application at Hakukokan. Chubu is a diverse and expansive region that includes smaller regions such as Hokuriku to the north, Tokai to the south, Chukyo, which is a major economic hub, and Koshinetsu, known for its rugged mountainous terrain often referred to as the “roof of Japan.”
