Located in the Fukuoka prefecture in norther Kyushu, Dazaifu Tenmangu is one of the most well known Shrine in Japan. Dazaifu Tenmangu is often visited by students wishing to do well in their studies and entrance exams for schools and university, as Sugawawa Michizane, who is considered as a god of studying is enshrined here. Sugawara Michizane was an advisor to several emperors and the fujiwara clan in the Heian period but was eventually ostrasized for being accused of trying to plot against the emperor, being forced to be sent to Dazaifu from Kyoto. While he was not executed, he was left without much food, money shelter which led to his death 2 years after moving to Dazaifu. He was considered very astute and adept in academics and especially in the field of poetry which is primarily why the Japanese consider him as the god of academics and also why they travel a long way to pray there. Fukuoka is also well known for its high quality strawberry and there are some strawberry farms where you can pick your own all you can eat strawberries and it them on the spot with some condensed milk so thats another thing you may consider doing if you decide to visit.
