Day 1-3: Enjoy Tokyo

Day 1

Start your day by visiting 浅草寺 (Senso-ji Temple) in Asakusa. Explore the ancient Buddhist temple, admire the impressive Kaminarimon Gate, and stroll down Nakamise Shopping Street, known for its traditional snacks and souvenirs. Head to 皇居外苑 (Imperial Palace East Gardens) to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Take a leisurely walk through the gardens and discover historic landmarks like the Ninomaru Garden and the remnants of Edo Castle. In the afternoon, visit the bustling district of 渋谷 (Shibuya). Experience the iconic Shibuya Crossing, known as one of the busiest intersections in the world. Explore the trendy shops, department stores, and fashionable boutiques in the area. Don’t forget to visit the statue of Hachiko, the loyal dog. Explore the vibrant youth culture in 原宿 (Harajuku). In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in one of Tokyo’s food districts like 築地市場 (Tsukiji Fish Market) or 山谷 (Yurakucho). Savor fresh sushi and seafood delicacies or indulge in traditional Japanese cuisine. End your day with a visit to 東京タワー (Tokyo Tower). Take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape from the observation deck. If time permits, explore the nearby Shiba Park and discover Zojoji Temple.

 

Day 2

Explore the vibrant district of 新宿 (Shinjuku). Visit the serene Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, offering beautiful gardens, ponds, and cherry blossoms during the spring season. Take a peaceful stroll and enjoy the tranquility. Discover the bustling entertainment area of 歌舞伎町 (Kabukicho). In the afternoon, mmerse yourself in the world of technology and pop culture at the 秋葉原電気街 (Akihabara Electric Town). Indulge in your interests, whether it’s collecting figurines, trying out the latest gadgets, or discovering rare retro games. In the evening, experience traditional Japanese theater by watching a Kabuki performance at the 国立劇場 (National Theatre). Enjoy the elaborate costumes, impressive stage sets, and the unique acting style of Kabuki, a form of classical Japanese drama. Enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Tokyo’s renowned food districts, such as 築地市場 (Tsukiji Fish Market) or 銀座 (Ginza). Indulge in fresh sushi, sashimi, or explore the upscale dining options available in Ginza. Celebrate your time in Tokyo with a delicious culinary experience. 

In the evening, experience the vibrant nightlife in 六本木 (Roppongi). Explore the trendy bars, clubs, and lounges in the area. Enjoy live music, dance, or simply relax with a drink while soaking in the energetic atmosphere. 

 

Day 3: 

Visit the cultural hub of 上野 (Ueno). Explore 上野公園 (Ueno Park), home to several major museums and attractions, including the 東京國立博物館 (Tokyo National Museum), 上野動物園 (Ueno Zoo), and 不忍池 (Shinobazu Pond). Immerse yourself in art, history, and nature. Take a stroll along the vibrant shopping street of Ameya-Yokocho Market, located near Ueno Station. This bustling market offers a wide variety of goods, including clothing, accessories, fresh produce, and street food. Explore the vibrant atmosphere and find unique souvenirs or tasty snacks to enjoy. In the afternoon, head to the trendy district of 渋谷 (Shibuya) again for a different experience. Visit 渋谷スクランブルスクエア (Shibuya Scramble Square) and take the elevator up to the observation deck for panoramic views of the city. Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the famous Shibuya Crossing. Discover the traditional side of Tokyo by visiting the historic district of streets of Kagurazaka. Visit traditional tea houses, boutique shops, and enjoy a traditional tea ceremony experience. 

In the evening, indulge in a culinary adventure at one of Tokyo’s famous food alleys. Visit 隅田川食品街 (Sumida River Yakitori Alley) in Asakusa or 築地場外市場 (Tsukiji Outer Market) in Tsukiji for an array of delicious street food and fresh seafood. Wrap up your trip by experiencing Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife in 六本木 (Roppongi). Explore the lively bars, clubs, and entertainment venues in the area. Enjoy live music, dance performances, or simply relax and soak in the energetic atmosphere.

Day 4: 

Explore the upscale district of 目黑 (Meguro). Visit 目黒川 (Meguro River) during the cherry blossom season for a picturesque stroll along the riverside. Indulge in some retail therapy and enjoy the variety of dining options available. Visit the teamLab Borderless digital art museum in Odaiba. Immerse yourself in interactive digital art installations that blend art and technology. Explore the captivating exhibits and enjoy the mesmerizing visual effects. 

In the evening, enjoy a memorable dining experience in one of Tokyo’s themed restaurants. Choose from a variety of options, including robot-themed restaurants, maid cafes, or ninja-themed dining establishments. Immerse yourself in the unique ambiance and enjoy the entertaining performances.

Day 5

Take a day trip either to the historic city of 鎌倉 (Kamakura), located just outside Tokyo or visit 東京ディズニーランド (Tokyo Disneyland) or 東京ディズニーシー (Tokyo DisneySea) for a day of fun and adventure where you can enjoy thrilling rides, live shows, and immersive attractions in the magical world of Disney. If you opt to go for the Kamakura option, visit famous landmarks such as the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, and explore the charming streets filled with traditional shops and cafes. 

Day 4: Day trip to Nikko

Start your day by visiting the 東照宮 (Toshogu Shrine), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Japan’s most elaborate and ornate shrines. Explore the beautifully decorated buildings, intricate carvings, and vibrant colors that make Toshogu Shrine a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Take a leisurely walk along the Hiking Course. Enjoy the serene nature, picturesque landscapes, and the stunning views of the cascading Ryuzu Waterfall. 

In the afternoon, visit the 二荒山神社 (Futarasan Shrine), another important shrine in Nikko known for its tranquil atmosphere and scenic surroundings. Take a moment to admire the sacred trees and the peaceful ambiance of the shrine. Explore the 輪王寺 (Rinno-ji Temple), one of Nikko’s most prominent Buddhist temples. Admire the impressive architecture and serene gardens, and experience the spiritual tranquility within the temple complex. 

In the evening, take a stroll through the historic area of 日光町 (Nikko Town), where you can find traditional shops, cafes, and restaurants. Enjoy exploring the quaint streets, sampling local treats, and perhaps finding souvenirs to take home. Before leaving, don’t miss the opportunity to see the beautiful 日光夜景 (Nikko Night View). From selected viewpoints, you can witness the illumination of the Toshogu Shrine and the city’s scenic nighttime ambiance.

Day 5: A Day in Sendai and Matsushima

Start your day by exploring the vibrant city of Sendai. Visit 仙台城跡 (Sendai Castle Ruins) and stroll through the lush green grounds. Enjoy panoramic views of the city from the observation deck and learn about the history of the castle and the Date clan, who ruled the region. 

Head to 仙台市博物館 (Sendai City Museum), located near the castle ruins. Discover the rich cultural heritage of the region through its exhibits, which include historical artifacts, traditional crafts, and interactive displays.

In the Afternoon, take a short train ride to 松島 (Matsushima), a picturesque coastal town known for its stunning bay and scenic islands. Explore the area by walking along the coast and enjoy the breathtaking views of the ocean, rocky cliffs, and pine-covered islands. Visit 松島遊覧船 (Matsushima Bay Cruise) to experience the beauty of Matsushima up close. Board a sightseeing boat and cruise around the bay, passing by the iconic islands and admiring the unique rock formations. Take in the tranquil atmosphere and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area.

In the evening, return to Sendai and head to 一番町 (Ichibancho), the city’s lively entertainment district. Explore the vibrant streets lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. Enjoy a delicious dinner at a local izakaya or restaurant, savoring Sendai’s specialties such as Gyutan (grilled beef tongue) or Zunda mochi (sweet rice cakes topped with edamame paste).

Take a leisurely walk along 泉中央通り (Izumi Chuo-dori), a pedestrian street known for its illuminated trees and vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy the evening ambiance, shop for souvenirs, and perhaps try some local street food before concluding your day.

Day 6: A Day in Hiraizumi

Start your day by visiting 毛越寺 (Motsuji Temple and Garden), a Zen Buddhist temple known for its beautiful gardens and historical importance. Take a stroll through the meticulously land. In the afternoon, scaped gardens, which include a tranquil pond, lush greenery, and ancient ruins. Explore the temple grounds and discover the remnants of the once-grand structures. Explore the nearby 金色堂 (Konjikido), also known as the Golden Hall, a small but magnificent temple that showcases intricate gold leaf designs and exquisite craftsmanship. Admire the intricate details and learn about the religious and cultural significance of this historic building. In the afternoon, visit 中尊寺 (Chusonji Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important temples in Hiraizumi. Explore the temple complex, which houses various halls and pagodas, including the 金色堂 (Konjikido Hall), renowned for its opulent interior adorned with gold and mother-of-pearl decorations. Take a break and enjoy a traditional Japanese lunch at one of the local restaurants near Chusonji Temple. Savor regional specialties such as Wanko Soba (bite-sized servings of buckwheat noodles) or Hiraizumi Donburi (a rice bowl topped with local ingredients).
