This Zen temple in Kitakamakura is the busiest of all the popular hydrangea viewing spots in Kamakura. The temple’s stone staircase approach is the center of the temple grounds, which are filled with approximately 2,500 hydrangea plants in full bloom, and their unique pale blue hue is also known as “Meigetsuin blue,” which is very popular. The rear garden behind the main hall is open for viewing only during the iris season in June and the foliage season in December. Don’t forget to visit the “Window of Enlightenment,” a round window in the main hall from which you can admire the beautiful seasonal view of the garden and surrounding mountains in harmony.
