Tokyo Skytree is a broadcasting tower and a popular tourist attraction located in the Sumida district of Tokyo, Japan. Standing at a height of 634 meters (2,080 feet), it is the tallest tower in Japan and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The tower was designed by the Japanese architectural firm Nikken Sekkei and officially opened on May 22, 2012. It serves as a transmission tower for television and radio broadcasting, as well as an observation deck and shopping and dining destination. The construction of Tokyo Skytree began in 2008, and it took four years to complete the tower. It was built on the site of the former Tokyo Radio Tower, which was dismantled in 1989 due to safety concerns. The tower is made up of a steel frame and a reinforced concrete foundation, and it is designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons, which are common in Japan. Tokyo Skytree is divided into two sections: the Tembo Deck and the Tembo Galleria. The Tembo Deck is located at a height of 350 meters (1,150 feet) and offers panoramic views of the city. It has a capacity of up to 2,000 visitors at a time and features a glass floor section that allows visitors to see the ground below. The Tembo Galleria is an indoor observation deck located at a height of 450 meters (1,480 feet). It features a spiraling walkway that takes visitors up to the top of the tower, offering breathtaking views of Tokyo and the surrounding areas. One of the main attractions of Tokyo Skytree is the view it offers of Tokyo. Visitors can see some of Tokyo’s most famous landmarks, such as Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace, and Mount Fuji. On clear days, it is even possible to see the Tokyo Bay and the surrounding mountains. The view from the Tembo Deck is especially stunning at night when the city is illuminated with lights. Another attraction of Tokyo Skytree is the shopping and dining options it offers. The tower has two main shopping and dining areas: Solamachi and Tokyo Skytree Town. Solamachi is a six-story shopping and dining complex that features over 300 shops, restaurants, and cafes. It offers a range of products and souvenirs, including traditional Japanese crafts and food, as well as international brands. Tokyo Skytree Town is a larger complex that includes Solamachi, as well as an aquarium, planetarium, and observation deck. The aquarium, called Sumida Aquarium, is located on the fifth and sixth floors of Tokyo Skytree Town. It features a range of aquatic life, including penguins, jellyfish, and sea otters. The planetarium, called Konica Minolta Planetarium Tenku, is located on the seventh floor and offers a range of shows and exhibitions on astronomy and space exploration. Tokyo Skytree is also a popular destination for events and celebrations. The tower is lit up with different colors and patterns during various holidays and events throughout the year, including Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Halloween. The tower also hosts events and exhibitions, such as art shows and concerts. Overall, Tokyo Skytree is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Tokyo. It offers breathtaking views of the city, a range of shopping and dining options, and a variety of entertainment and events. Visitors can easily spend several hours exploring the tower and its surrounding areas, and it is a perfect destination for families, couples, and solo travelers alike.
