Wakkanai is the northernmost town in Japan, with an average temperature of about 17°C in summer and minus 5°C in winter. In fact, the town is so close to foreign countries that Sakhalin can be seen when the weather is good. At Cape Soya, where the Monument to Japan’s Northernmost Point is located, the shadow of Sakhalin Island can be seen across the sea on clear days. The viewing spot is surrounded by the sea on three sides, so you can really feel that this is the northernmost point of Japan. Cape Noshappu, located 5 km north of Wakkanai city centre, is also famous for its beautiful sunset over the sea. From the observatory on the cape, Rishiri Fuji and Rebun Island can be seen, making it one of Wakkanai’s most famous scenic spots.

We absolutely agree that the Japanese language is not an easy language to master.
